04.03.2016: Simplification of the association's structure

The foundation stone for the activities of the Historischer Lokschuppen Wittenberge, and especially for the preservation of signal box Wm, was laid in 2004. A number of railway enthusiasts then joined forces to create a lasting tribute to the great era of Wittenberge railway depot. For this purpose, an association called Historischer Lokschuppen Wittenberge e.V. was founded (Historical Locomotive Shed Wittenberge e.V.). The aim of the association was to preserve the signal box already mentioned and to revive the railway depot as a working museum. With this in mind, the members have carried out considerable practical voluntary work on site and extensive lobbying work in order to set the points for the resurrection of the locomotive shed with the decision-makers on site. This has been achieved in an excellent way.

There had been a friendly relationship between our two associations since long before the Verein Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. had given up its domicile in the Altmark and moved its activities to the newly-renovated premises in Wittenberge, so it was easy to create and operate one of the largest railway museums in Germany. In the course of time, it became clear that two parallel association structures are in the long run neither efficient nor externally beneficial, either for our visitors or for our supporters. The only question was what solution to strive for. We believe that we have found a good answer to this question.

On Saturday, 12.12.2015, members resolved to formally dissolve the Verein Historischer Lokschuppen Wittenberge e.V., but to keep the name "Historischer Lokschuppen Wittenberge" as a brand name for our museum. You will thus continue to find press items and communication under this name as usual. Basically, the organisers are the same people, our activities will be the same and so will the aims of the association - the enduring preservation of Wittenberge locomotive depot. The only difference will be in administration, in which railway legal and contractual obligations specifically will be in charge of the association Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V., based in Wittenberge.

Consequently, the Historischer Lokschuppen Wittenberge e.V. association has been in liquidation since December 12, 2015. The association is represented in the liquidation period of one year jointly by the two liquidators Frank M
