The Osthannoversche Eisenbahn AG (OHE) took diesel loco 60022 into service in January 1960. It was part of their traction modernisation programme and with its three sisters it replaced steam traction on the private railway in the east of Lower Saxony. Similar locomotives had been delivered to the former German Federal Railway in the mid-1950s, where they were designated class V65, later 265.
Loco 60022 was used to haul passenger and freight trains over the entire OHE network and was also used in heavy shunting work.
It was acquired in late 2011 by the Steam Loco Friends Salzwedel; it is a typical example of a heavyweight diesel locomotive for branch line service.
The loco is equipped with a compressed air starer for the diesel engine. With a built-in compressor, two cylinders are filled with compressed air at 28 bar used to turn the engine over when starting, until it fires. The compressed air stored is sufficient for three of four starting operations when the engine is warm, The engine has a cubic capacity of 75 litres. galleries of this vehiclemore pictures of this vehicle |
