15.05.2024: Visit to Luckau

On the weekend of 10/12 May 2024, the Niederlausitzer Eisenbahnfreunde celebrated their big railway festival in Luckau, Niederlausitz. We were once again invited to take part with our steam locomotive Emma and offer cab rides at the station. We were delighted to be invited to the ‘Kulturdampf’.
A little background on the railway in Luckau, which is located on the Lübben - Uckro railway line. It was built by the Lower Lusatian Railway (NLE) and opened at the end of the 19th century to open up rural Lower Lusatia. The railway was nationalised in 1946 and from then on operated by the Deutsche Reichsbahn, later the Deutsche Bahn AG. At the end of the 20th century, Deutsche Bahn AG ceased operations due to inefficiency and the Deutsche Regionaleisenbahn took over the line. The DBV Niederlausitzer Eisenbahn e.V. has been operating museum tours on the line for some time now. Here is an aerial photo of Luckau station last weekend:

Shortly before the event, our Emma was handed over to Auto Ehrig from Schwarzenberg, which skilfully transported our locomotive from Wittenberge to Luckau on a low-loader.

Once we arrived in Luckau, we completed the locomotive again after some overhanging parts had been unscrewed for transport.

On the days of the event, we shuttled with our locomotive between the station building and the level crossing on Berliner Straße over a distance of around 600 metres in each direction. That was enough of a run to show our travelling guests what our locomotive is capable of.

In the evening, our little one was allowed to spend the night in or in front of the Luckau engine shed. At times, she was accompanied by the Austrian steam locomotive 77.250, which is now operated by the Eurovapor association based in Würzburg.

In Luckau, we met the extremely friendly team of the Niederlausitzer Eisenbahnfreunde. Other clubs and railway companies were also present with exhibits and so we also warmly greet our colleagues from the railway museum EMBB - Eisenbahnmuseum Bayerischer Bahnhof, Eurovapor, Eisenbahngesellschaft Potsdam, DB AG and the company InterTourex. We are already looking forward to next year!
Here are a few more impressions of the successful event.
