Beiwagen 197 805-5
Carriage No. 197 805-5 was designed by the company WUMAG in Görlitz as a lightweight four-axle trailer for the German State Railway's railcars and built in Uerdingen.
Initially carrying the number VB 147 027, the carriage was put into service on being accepted from the Seddin depot. Virtually throughout its service life with the DR (GDR), during WWII and afterwards, it remained allocated to depots in the Berlin and Brandenburg regions. It spent many years working from both Frankfurt (Oder) and Templin, while there are also photographs of it in service on the island of Usedom. After its withdrawal from service, it spent some time stabled at Jerichow depot
In 1987, the carriage came into the care of the 7/64 Association Salzwedel of the DR's German Model Railway Society, later to be taken over by the Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel.
Having been used as a storeroom for many years, we display it today in its condition immediately before its imminent restoration. We intend to restore it to working condition as it was last in service, which is expected to take some time. We have a complete set of interior furnishings and fittings, headlamps and other accessories (even if they cannot be seen here!) which give grounds for optimism that a complete restoration to working order is not just pie in the sky, but a realistic objective.
We are always open to expert advice and assistance.
Further information on progress with the restoration will be found here.
