03.03.2018: Winter activities
The museum's winter months are usually used by the active members to carry out more complicated tasks. One of these is the redesign of our exhibition space in the south gable of the locomotive shed. A new exhibition will be created here, to explain how the steam locomotive works. The aim is to explain the technology without being too technical. The central elements in the exhibition will be new movable walls. These will carry large posters with corresponding explanations. In the near future, these will be supplemented by small exhibits from steam locomotive operations.
We are also working on the vehicles, including 50 3682, at the moment to make them fit for the coming season. The left cab side wall shows corrosion damage in the area of the injector pump, because water and steam always splashes against it. The wall will now be repainted over a large area. Since the side wall has just been removed, the pump can now also be accessed easily. It will be replaced by a reconditioned pump. The wooden floor on the driver's cab has also been removed to replace it with new wooden planks.
