Turntable

The turntable is the centrepiece of the museum's premises. It is used to turn incoming locomotives onto the appropriate adjoining shed road, or track. The installation has a maximum working load of 350 tonnes and can be operated by electricity, compressed air or pure muscle power. The turntable deck is almost 24 metres (about 78 ft) long, making it the largest surviving installation of this type in Germany.
