30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. - Memories With today's picture from 5 May 2024, we provisionally close the picture arch from our club history. We would like to thank our visitors, friends and supporters for the years together and hope for a good future. Perhaps as a symbol of good cooperation with new friends, we present here a picture of 01 1104, 01 531 and 44 0093, which visited us on the occasion of our anniversary event 30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel. We will of course continue to report on current developments here and look forward to many exciting stories. |
30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. - Memories We used the night's rest on 9 May 2023 to take an atmospheric night shot of steam locomotives 01 509 and 50 3570 in front of our engine shed. |
30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. - Memories Our two class V22 diesel locomotives pose in front of the engine shed on 26 March 2022. They originate from the pulp mill in Arneburg and were numbered 2 and 3. Today, one is painted orange in the style of the Deutsche Reichsbahn and bears the number 102 076. The other is shining in blue and is labelled as the works locomotive of the Wittenberge oil mill. |
30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. - Memories Our steam locomotive Emma and the locomotive Pritzwalk from Eisenbahngesellschaft Potsdam were also allowed to leave the museum grounds to harness a special train through the port of Wittenberge. On 3 July 2021, our little special train stands on the platform at Wittenberge main station. |
30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. - Memories On 5 July 2020, we returned from a shunting trip from the port of Wittenberge with 50 3570. At the entrance to the main line to Wittenberge main station, we had to wait at the shunting signal for another train to pass. |

30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. - Memories On 6 May 2017, we commemorated the discontinuation of steam locomotives in Wittenberge by the Deutsche Reichsbahn in May 1987. To celebrate the day, our steam locomotive 50 3570 bore the number of the last locomotive used at the time, 50 3545, and the original sign ‘Good bye steam engines’, which is now on display in the reception area of our museum. |
30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. - Memories On 11 January 2016, we dismantled the turntable in Parchim with the help of a friendly company from Salzwedel. Not so that it could be turned into scrap metal. Rather, we were able to acquire the devices at the time in order to obtain a suitable turntable with a diameter of 20 metres for the planned reconstruction of locomotive shed 1 in Wittenberge. The parts of the turntable are now in storage in Wittenberge. |
30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. - Memories On 2 May 2015, we said goodbye to our diesel locomotive 118 748 from active service because its licence expired the following week due to the expiry of the inspection periods. For this reason, we organised a photo special, first from Wittenberge to Karow, then to Putlitz and then back to Wittenberge. The picture was taken at Ganzlin. |
30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. - Memories On the occasion of our Autumn Steam 2014 event, several diesel locomotives of different classes also gathered in the historic locomotive shed in Wittenberge. 30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. - Memories After our museum opened, word quickly spread among locomotive operators that Wittenberge once again had the necessary infrastructure to supply steam locomotives. The express locomotive 03 2155 visited us on 18 August 2013. The noble racer belongs to the WFL company and is still available for steam specials today. |
30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. - Memories 13 October 2012 was certainly one of the most important days in the history of our association. We transferred some of our large steam locomotives from Salzwedel via Stendal to Wittenberge. The following picture shows the train consisting of some of our class 50 steam locomotives, with the wagons of the so-called disaster train in between, which provided the necessary braking effect for the train. The locomotive was 221 106 of the Potsdam railway company, which has since been sold. |
30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. - Memories On 15 October 2011, a steam locomotive was turned on the newly refurbished turntable in Wittenberge for the first time in 15 years. It was steam locomotive 91 134, which had hauled a special train from Schwerin to Wittenberge and back. It was the forerunner of our steam locomotives that moved into the Wittenberge engine shed in 2012. |
30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. - Memories On 1 May 2010, our steam locomotive Emma took its first steps in Salzwedel after being refurbished. There was still some final work to be done. For example, the screws holding the steam dome on the boiler still had to be tightened and its panelling was still missing. |

It now runs for Heinrichsmeyer Eisenbahndienstleistungen GmbH in Merzig. |
30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel - Memories On 25 April 2004 we celebrated our 10th anniversary. The following picture shows the steam locomotive 50 3695 of the Staßfurt railway friends with wagons of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Verkehrsfreunde Lüneburg (AVL) in Arendsee. |
30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. - Memories On 1 October 2003, steam locomotive 50 3570 was transferred from Liebenau to Salzwedel. The owner had acquired it from the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1993 and parked it in a military area near Liebenau for several years. At that time, we had no idea that it would now be one of our operational attractions. The picture shows it being towed by a Wiebe diesel locomotive in Visselhövede. |
30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel - Memories In March 2002, we commemorated the freight traffic of the 1980s in the Altmark. Therefore, a freight train with our steam locomotive 50 3682 ran on two days from Salzwedel via Oebisfelde to Magdeburg and back. Today's weekly photo was taken in Dambeck, just as the train was passing the striking stork's nest. |
30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel - Memories On May 11, 2001, the Dampflokfreunde celebrated their spring steam in the Salzwedel engine shed. Two steaming guests were visiting for the occasion. Here you can see the steam locomotive 52 8184 from Stassfurt and behind it the steam locomotive 24 009, who visited us with a special train of the Lübecker Verkehrsfreunde association, at the Salzwedel water tower. Unfortunately, both locomotives are no longer in service. |

30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. - Memories On 30 April 1999, a big station festival was celebrated in Röbel on lake Müritz. On this occasion, special trains also travelled on various lines in the area. Today we are showing a picture of our steam locomotive 50 3682, which is racing against 52 8029 stationed in Röbel as they leave Ganzlin station. 50 3682 is travelling with its train to Pritzwalk, while 52 8029 is turning off to Röbel. |

30 years of Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel - Memories Dear railway friends, |
The days are noticeably getting longer again, but the sun still remains shrouded in fog on some days. |
In view of the cold season, we would like to present a snow picture of our steam locomotive 50 3682 as our picture of the month. It is already 13 years old. However, some of you may still remember its former location in Salzwedel. We wish you a happy New Year. |
